Sony Pictures Entertainment film chair Tom Rothman sued the Trump administration Tuesday over his sudden ouster from the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, arguing that the president lacks the authority to fire him.

The CPB, which distributes taxpayer money to TV and radio broadcasters nationwide, joined the lawsuit, along with two other fired board members, according to legal documents obtained by TheWrap.

Spotify on Tuesday morning reported it added another 5 million paying customers during the first quarter, indicating its bet on podcasts is continuing to help attract users who are interested in more than just music.

But the stock price of the Stockholm, Sweden-based streaming giant took a big early hit after its quarterly report was released, as its first quarter revenue matched analyst estimates and its operating profit fell short of what Wall Street was aiming for; Investors may have also been expecting Spotify to add more users during the quarter than it did, following a record-setting quarter to close 2024.

The Los Angeles City Council has unanimously passed a motion calling on various city departments to research ways to reduce the costs of on-location shooting, adding to the statewide efforts to revive declining production rates in California.

The motion was introduced by recently elected councilmember Adrin Nazarian, who represents a district that includes North Hollywood, where many IATSE West Coast locals are headquartered. The methods the motion asks city departments to research include reducing or eliminating fees, particularly for shoots on public property and ways to streamline the process for permits.
