Trump has called Canada's newly-elected Prime Minister Carney, and they have agreed to meet in the near future. The PM's office said the two leaders "agreed on the importance of Canada and the United States working together – as independent, sovereign nations – for their mutual betterment". Trump's trade tariffs and repeated comments undermining Canada's sovereignty overshadowed the election race, which ended with Carney's Liberals projected to win a minority government. Elsewhere,
Trump spoke at a rally in Michigan last night to celebrate his first 100 days in office, telling crowds: "We've just gotten started."
