Good morning. US President Donald Trump has called Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to congratulate him on his general election victory. In the UK, a watchdog has issued a warning to the government over its climate progress, and we'll look ahead to tomorrow's local elections. Trump has called Canada's newly-elected Prime Minister Carney, and they have agreed to meet in the near future. The PM's office said the two leaders "agreed on the importance of Canada and the United States working together – as independent, sovereign nations – for their mutual betterment". Trump's trade tariffs and repeated comments undermining Canada's sovereignty overshadowed the election race, which ended with Carney's Liberals projected to win a minority government. Elsewhere, Trump spoke at a rally in Michigan last night to celebrate his first 100 days in office, telling crowds: "We've just gotten started."

The Climate Change Committee has published a highly critical report saying the government has made little progress in preparing the country for the growing threats posed by rising temperatures. The watchdog warns the UK could be left vulnerable to serious economic and health impacts. It comes as former Labour prime minister Tony Blair called for a major rethink of net zero policies .

The BBC's political correspondent Chris Mason has given his insights ahead of tomorrow's local elections in some parts of England.
