She looked like a chubby, little puddle, forlornly sitting in the middle of the floor. The adoption caseworker had counseled us that little Emily had several serious health concerns and was developmentally delayed.
It is hard to say what caught our eyes at first. Her jawline was blemished with a huge, red hemangioma. Her crossed eyes looked huge through her thick eyeglasses. Even at thirteen months old, she had very little hair and was toothless.
