Dear Hybla Valley Elementary Husky Community,
As we enter the final six weeks of the school year, we want to take a moment to say how incredibly proud we are of all that our students have accomplished so far. Their hard work, resilience, and growth have been truly inspiring.
As we head into the home stretch, it is important that our students stay focused, complete their assignments, and take time to prepare for upcoming assessments. With continued effort and support, we know they will finish the year strong.
Thank you for being such an important part of our Husky community. Let’s work together to make these last weeks both successful and meaningful for our students.
The Administration Team Hybla Valley Elementary School
Getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast are especially important during SOL testing at Hybla Valley Elementary, which begins on April 30. For students in grades 3–6, being well-rested helps with focus, memory, and problem-solving skills, all of which are key to doing their best on the test. A nutritious breakfast gives their brains the energy they need to stay alert and think clearly throughout the morning. Taking care of their bodies helps students show what they truly know!
Staff Appreciation Week at Hybla Valley Elementary School is a special time to celebrate and recognize the incredible dedication, passion, and hard work of our team. We are truly lucky and blessed to have some of the most amazing staff in all of FCPS—individuals who go above and beyond every day to support, inspire, and uplift our students and community. Their unwavering commitment makes Hybla Valley a place where every child can thrive.

We love our Hybla Husky staff!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the amazing Hybla Valley PTO moms and parent volunteers who came in on Thursday, April 24th to cook delicious homemade pupusas for our teachers and staff. Your time, effort, and care brought so much joy to everyone. We’re also grateful for the tasty desserts from Wegmans and the refreshing Horchata you provided—everything was truly appreciated and enjoyed!
Hybla Valley Elementary is deeply thankful for our meaningful partnership with GrandInvolve. Volunteers like Liz Murphy and Diane Pascoe have been instrumental in building a strong bridge between our school and the wider community, fostering connection and support.
We are also especially grateful for the dedication of our language interpreters, such as Mr. Rodrigo Guajardo, who has supported Hybla families for many years by helping ensure clear and compassionate communication.
Hybla Valley Elementary is excited to introduce a new outdoor classroom and garden space where students can learn and grow in nature. This hands-on learning environment allows students to explore science, teamwork, and responsibility as they help plant seeds, water the garden, and observe plant growth. Several classes even have their own garden beds, giving students a special connection to their plants. To enhance the space even further, bird feeders will soon be added, inviting local wildlife and providing more opportunities for observation and discovery.
Our Hybla Valley Girl Scouts partnered with Girl Scouts from West Potomac to make "Sit-Upon" cushions. Sit-upons come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. These insulated, usually homemade, often waterproof pads protect girls from the cold and damp while "sitting upon" the ground.
The last Hybla Valley Girl Scout troop meeting will be held on May 15th at 5:00 PM in the cafeteria. Thank you so much to our troop leader, Michelle Johnson!
Monday, May 12, 2025
Students will be dismissed at 1:05 PM.
A letter will be sent home to families on Monday, May 5th and needs to be signed and returned to the school by Friday, May 9th.
We need to know if: 1) You have childcare and your student will go home at 1:00 PM, 2) You do not have childcare and your student will stay at school until 4:00 PM, 3) Your child will go to SACC.
FCPS will offer a new Montessori program in the West Potomac pyramid. The program will begin in the 2025-26 school year, starting with multi-age classrooms at the pre-K and kindergarten levels.
The program will be located at Bucknell Elementary School. Families of 3, 4, and 5 year olds are invited to apply through a lottery process. Eligible families must have a verified residence in the West Potomac pyramid — Belle View, Fort Hunt, Groveton, Hollin Meadows, Hybla Valley, Stratford Landing, or Waynewood elementary schools.
Riverside Elementary School is a split feeder school with students residing in boundaries that feed both the Mount Vernon High School Pyramid and the West Potomac pyramid. Students who are zoned for Riverside Elementary School and reside in the West Potomac pyramid are also eligible.
Use the FCPS Boundary Locator System to find which school your student is zoned to attend.
Bucknell families may choose to access this program that will be offered within their base school. Families zoned for Bucknell must complete the lottery application to indicate their interest. Four- and five-year olds who are zoned for Bucknell will have automatic acceptance. Three-year olds who are zoned for Bucknell will be entered into the lottery. The program is free and transportation will be provided. Funding for this program is provided by the U.S. Department of Education’s Magnet Schools Assistance Program.
The program will expand each year to include the next grade level. For example, in School Year 2026-27, there will be Montessori classrooms available for first grade students.
