Westgate Weekly News

Westgate Families,

I hope this finds you having a wonderful week! Thank you to our fabulous PTA for organizing our exciting volleyball game last Friday.  We had so much fun and loved the support from so many of our students and families who attended. Go Wolves!

Please note that tonight's PTA meeting has been rescheduled to a virtual meeting on Wednesday, May 14.  We appreciate your understanding and hope to see many of you virtually in a couple of weeks.

Today, April 30, is our Family Book Fair evening at Westgate.  The Book Fair will be open from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. so we hope many families can utilize the extra time to pick out some new books!

Next Thursday is our much anticipated WestFest.  This is a completely student run event but we need your help to make it memorable.  Please see below on how you can sign-up to contribute a special dish, perform, or volunteer.

Lastly, next week is Teacher Appreciation Week!  Let's show our amazing teachers and staff how grateful we are for all that they do for our students.  See below for ways you can volunteer and donate so that next week is a huge success!

As always, thank you for your continued support of all things Westgate and we hope you have a great rest of your week ahead!

All my best,

Hallie Demetriades

Principal

Teacher Appreciation Week - May 5-9

Teacher Appreciation Week will be Monday, May 5 - Friday, May 9.  Students will be receiving coloring sheets in their Tuesday folder this week to complete and return. They can hold onto them and hand them directly to their teachers, specials teachers, aides or staff members during Teacher Appreciation Week. Alternatively, they can place them into the folder in the front office starting this Thursday, and they will be displayed on the Wall of Gratitude in the front hall during Teacher Appreciation Week. Please check out the sign-up geniuses below for food donations for our Staff and Teacher Breakfast, Staff & Teacher Snack Cart, and also volunteer slots for setting up and cleaning up activities. Please remember our teachers and staff as we near the end of the school year and all the hard work and energy they’ve put forth to make Westgate the thriving community it is.

WestFest 2025 - May 8

WestFest is a vibrant celebration of our incredible and diverse community! Join us on Thursday, May 8th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Westgate for an evening of fun, connection, and festivities. At WestFest, taste some of our community's favorite dishes, watch performances of our talented students, and participate in a variety of activities! We hope to see you there!

The student planning committee is looking for volunteers to help make this a successful and fun event for our Westgate community.

Shoe Donation

You are invited to donate gently used (or new) athletic shoes and socks in children's sizes. The shoes are intended for grades K-6 so they can be shared with students in our community and boost participation in physical activity. There will be a collection box at the Volleyball game on Friday April 25, Book Fair on April 30, and at door 1 the week of April 28 - May 2.

PTA General Meeting - May 14

We are excited to invite you to our next PTA General Meeting on May 14 at 6PM which will be held virtually. In addition to a brief update on PTA activities, this General Meeting will also include elections for the 2025-2026 Westgate PTA Board. We urgently need to fill two key board positions—Treasurer —as we cannot run the PTA or host events without them. We are also looking for an After-School Coordinator and Membership Coordinator.  Please use this Zoom Link: PTA Meeting May 14 (Meeting ID: 941 2962 9411 Passcode: wolves)

If you are interested in any of these roles, please email president@westgatewolvespta.com. Your support makes all the difference!

It is very important that students are here and on time on the day of SOL assessments. Please avoid scheduling appointments or other events on these days to ensure student participation.

  • Wednesday, May 14th – Reading SOL (Grades 3-6)
  • Friday, May 16th – Science SOL (Grade 5 only)
  • Wednesday, May 21st – Math SOL (Grades 3-6)

Save the Date - Rising Kindergarten Playdates

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have, or know of a rising kindergartener scheduled to come to Westgate next year?  All students that turn five by September 30, 2025 are eligible to attend Kindergarten this fall.  Please spread the word that registration is underway as we are excited to meet our newest Wolves.  Please consider registering asap since our staffing reflects the number of registered students.  Registration information for kindergarten and new students can be found on our website here.
