In a new filing in the closely watched case against Florida’s book banning law, attorneys for the plaintiffs—including the Big Five, Sourcebooks, the Authors Guild, and several authors—allege that their clients have been subject to “First Amendment injury” due to the book removals prompted by Florida House Bill 1069. Simon & Schuster’s Primero Sueño Press is teaming with the Barcelona-based powerhouse publisher Urano World on a number of initiatives, and Authors Equity has partnered with Germany’s LYX Books to bring a slew of new adult romance titles stateside. The 34th annual Abu Dhabi International Book Fair opened yesterday with expanded programming and a record 1,400 exhibitors representing 96 countries. The Guardian looks at why more novelists are bringing their flair for fiction to video games. Two cookbook authors are accusing an Australian TikTok influencer of plagiarizing their recipes for her cookbook Bake with Brooki, per the BBC. Kaveh Akbar, Percival Everett, Katie Kitamura, Torrey Peters, Lucy Sante, and Tony Tulathimutte are among Cultured magazine’s Cult100, a list of the 100 most culturally influential people. Public Books pays tribute to Iowa City, “where contemporary English literature matters more than anywhere else on earth.” For the L.A. Review of Books, journalist Jackie Snow reflects on what working for a books-to-prisons nonprofit taught her about reading. And British novelist Jane Gardam and Congolese author Valentin-Yves Mudimbe have died at 96 and 83, respectively.
