Edison Academy Families,
It is hard to believe that we are in the final full month of the school year. Edison High School is graduating at 2:00 p.m. on June 3rd so there will be shuttles for the AM feeder students only. Midday and PM students should stay at their base schools. The final day for Edison Academy shuttles is June 4th, therefore that will be the last day for non-Edison students. Parents/guardians, please be sure to follow the attendance procedures when your student is going to miss class for any reason, see below for more details.
Last week, the following students did a great job representing Edison Academy Veterinary Science classes in the 2025 Veterinary Science Skills Challenge. Congratulations Cadence Behen (Edison High School), Amber Murphy (Edison High School), Emma Frye (West Potomac High School), Gabriella McGarry (West Springfield High School) and Sofia Torres Lopez (West Springfield High School).
Congratulations to our Skills USA competitors who competed earlier this month in Roanoke. We are incredibly proud of HVAC students, Jeremy Ramos and Colin McNamara from West Springfield HS, for winning first place in Entrepreneurship in the state of Virginia. Fifteen students in HVAC, Electrical, and Criminal Justice did a fantastic job representing Edison Academy.
Thank you to all of the students, teachers, families, as well as business and community partners who attended our 2024-2025 Electrical Construction and Engineering Induction Ceremony earlier this month. We appreciate Mr. Wolfe's dedication to prepare our students for futures in the field.

We will continue to share important information and good news through these newsletters, our Edison Academy website, and social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Sincerely,
Monica Bentley, Academy Administrator
Attendance
To report unexpected absences, please use the this Attendance Form or call the Edison Academy Office 24 Hour Attendance Line, 703-924-8137, or email us at EdisonAcademy.Attendance@fcps.edu to report the absence. Handwritten notes from parents delivered by students are not encouraged as a method of reporting absences.
Testing attendance
Academies don’t receive notice of scheduled activities and testing from base schools. Activities, testing, and all other absences need to be reported directly by parents/guardians to the Academy so they can be recorded correctly on the Academy side. Use the links below to report attendance. This is true for all base schools (including Edison High School).
End of year attendance
-
Seniors: Your attendance for final exams, senior activities, and graduation will be automatically entered in SIS based on your base school's schedule. You do not need to report attendance for these days.
-
Underclass feeder students: Report any absences through June 4, the last day of Academy shuttles.
-
Underclass Edison students: Attendance will be marked through the last day of school.
June 3rd - Edison graduation
Due to the 2:00 p.m. graduation for Edison High School students, we have shuttles for only the AM feeder students. Midday and PM students should stay at their base schools.
June 4th - Last day for shuttles
Final day for all Edison Academy feeder students.

Residential Construction Visitors
Mr. Morrow's classes at the Residential Construction site welcomed visitors from Clark Construction to discuss summer internships and post-graduation job opportunities and show their yearlong build. They also showed the house to representatives from Region 3 and the Office of CTE, as well as School Board members. The work the students and Mr. Morrow are doing is quite impressive.
Vet Science Grooming
We are now scheduling dog baths and nail trims! We provide baths, nail trims, ear cleanings and minor trimming (around the feet, face, rear end, sanitary trims). We groom on mostly Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment. Drop off is between 8:10-8:30 a.m. and pick up is between 1:45-2 p.m. If your dog is in need of a haircut, please take them to another grooming facility for the full cut and we would be a happy to do the in-between baths and trims. Cost range is $10-25 depending on type of dog and services needed. Email kenestlerode@fcps.edu OR maakau@fcps.edu with your dog's information or any questions.

Career & Enrichment
Lanyards
All students that are not Edison High School students who attend Edison Academy have received an Edison Academy lanyard. It is expected that all feeder Academy students display their lanyards when entering the building. This was shared with all students at our beginning of the year orientation. The presentation has also been posted in Schoology by our teachers. Moving forward, if your student needs a replacement lanyard there will be a $5.00 fee.
The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for families, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees at Edison HS School. We love our staff members; let's tell them how we feel!
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week
May 5th through 9th is Teacher Appreciation Week, we invite you to take a moment and express your gratitude to our staff here at Edison High School Academy! Has a staff member gone the extra mile, gotten your student excited about a subject, or do you just want to say thank you?
