Assistant Principal Announcement
Dear Kilmer Center School Families,
After a comprehensive selection process, a new Assistant Principal has been selected to serve our amazing community. It is my pleasure to introduce to you Mrs. Laura Mondragon. Mrs. Mondragon is a native Texan and has lived on the East Coast since 2002 and considers Northern Virginia home. She is an experienced Assistant Principal and Special Educator with over twenty years of experience in diverse schools and school systems. Her expertise in special education includes early childhood, elementary and high school students, inclusive, and self-contained settings. She is certified in Elementary Education PreK-6, Administration and Supervision, Emotional Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Specific Learning Disabilities. Additionally, she has provided leadership in grade level and school wide leadership including as the Assistant Principal of Mount Vernon Community School in the Alexandria City Public Schools and the Assistant Principal-Special Education of Woodlawn Elementary School in the Fairfax County Public Schools. During her time off, Mrs. Mondragon loves watching sporting events, baking, and planning family vacations.
Art and Music Show May 9
Kilmer Center School's annual Art and Music Show will be on May 9th. Musical performances will be from 10:00-11:30 and the Art show will be open before and after the performances. We look forward to seeing you there.
Teacher Appreciation Week May 5-9
Teacher appreciation week is May 5-9. We cannot wait to celebrate our wonderful teachers, staff and everyone who inspires and supports our students.
Last Day of School (Early Dismissal)
The last day of the school year is Wednesday, June 11, and students will be dismissed 2 hours early.
✅ Share Feedback With County Health Department on School Health Services
The Fairfax County Health Department and Fairfax County Public Schools School Health Services invite parents/caregivers of FCPS students to participate in a survey on satisfaction with school health room services. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and will be open until Monday, May 5.
School health rooms (clinics) are managed by public health nurses and school health aides. Those staff provide care for students who become sick or injured during the school day, who require medications during the school day, and/or who have a chronic health condition that requires management during the school day.
Additionally, the school health room staff:
- Provide health education, communicable disease prevention, and health screenings.
- Work with schools to help address the root causes of population health disparities so that all students have equitable access to educational and health opportunities.
- Ensure that students have care for minor injuries and illnesses, and chronic health conditions, thus helping to minimize health barriers to learning.
Survey results will provide a basis for quality improvement of school health room services as well as inform future planning for schools.
Graduation
Kilmer Center School will hold its graduation for students on Friday May 30, 2025. There will be no school for students on this day.

2024-2025 Kilmer Center School Yearbooks are now for sale. The cost is $15 per yearbook and may be purchased through 5/10/2024. You can order your yearbooks here. A paper copy of the form was sent home with students as well. If you would like to purchase the yearbook but require support please contact Andrea Bylykbashi at avbylykbashi@fcps.edu .
Extended School Year (ESY) Dates Announced
The dates for the 2025 sessions of Extended School Year services have been confirmed. Students will attend from June 30 to July 25 with July 3 & 4th being holidays.
May
May 5: Antonio Rocha Performance
May 9: Art and Music Show
May 26: Memorial Day - No school
May 30- Graduation- No School for Students
June
June11: Last day of School- 2 hour early dismissal
June 30: First day of ESY
July
July 3-4: ESY Holiday - No School
July 25: Last Day of ESY

Kilmer Center Learning Space Donations
We have a vision to create a vibrant outdoor learning space for all students to access at Kilmer Center School. This learning space will be constructed directly beside our school building with a designated walkway directly leading to the learning space.
