From the Principal’s Pen

Dear Laurel Hill Families,

Next week is an exciting time for our teachers and staff. It's Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! We have lots of special treats planned to show them how valuable they are in the growth and development of our students. Please join us in celebrating our teachers and staff with a spirit of gratitude. See the flyer below for how we will celebrate each day.

It has been a while since we last came together for a Parent Coffee. We are offering a Parent Coffee next week, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 10am. This will be a virtual meeting. You may access the meeting via the link here. This link will also take you to previously recorded Parent Coffee sessions.

As we consider class placement for the 2025-2026 school year, we welcome your feedback to share some overall knowledge of your student and her/his unique traits. The class placement process is approached very carefully and thoroughly at Laurel Hill ES, and we consider the academic and social needs of each student. In order to provide the best environment for your child, please use this link here to provide your input.

Remember to save the date for our STEAM NIGHT to be held Thursday, May 8 from 6-8 pm. Join us for a fun-filled evening celebrating the creativity of artists and the innovation of scientists!

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Janice Dalton, Principal

 Assistant Principal

Thmeaka Traylor, Assistant Principal

Zartakshtai Babai, Acting Assistant Principal

Social and Emotional Learning Screener: Parent Reports

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

Individual student SEL Screener results are available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the SEL Screener Results Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.

Attendance Reminders

If your child will be absent or late to school, there are 3 different ways to notify the school. Call (703) 551-5353 and leave a message 24/7 on the Attendance line, email LaurelHillElem.Attendance@fcps.edu or Login to Parent VUE. Additionally, we do not dismiss students after 3:30pm, as it disrupts our end of day schedule.
