Tesla has shot down reports that it is searching for a replacement for its chief executive Elon Musk. Mike Waltz is to leave his post as US national security adviser and will be nominated to serve as the US ambassador to the UN instead, Trump has announced. Waltz, an architect of initial US efforts for peace in Ukraine, came under fire after taking "full responsibility" for the Signalgate scandal in which a journalist was added to a high-level text chat about air strikes in Yemen. Meanwhile, the White House says it now has an economic stake in securing a "sovereign and peaceful" Ukraine, in its first comments after signing a resources deal with Kyiv.

Deported gang members get second chance at Mexican call centre

Alberto Salagan "really felt lost" when he was deported from the US to Mexico

Donald Trump returned to power promising deportations of foreign-born people found guilty of crimes in the US. Many are starting again in unfamiliar countries. For some in Mexico, there is help - and hope.

When Alberto Salagan was deported from the US in January for gang activity, it was the first time he'd stepped foot in Mexico since he was a baby. "It was a shock. It still is," he admits. "When I got here, I really felt lost. No family, no food, no clothes, no nothing."

The 30-year-old's English language skills saved him from destitution. Through a deportee support organisation, he joined the EZ Call Center as a telephone sales agent. Almost everyone at the centre is a deportee, including the owner, Daniel Ruiz.

"I had to do something to get back on my feet," Salagan tells me. "Thanks to the call centre, now I have."
