After almost a decade of virtually flat funding, House Bill 57 contains a $700 boost to the Base Student Allocation, the state’s per-student funding formula. The measure also includes education policies intended to improve student outcomes.

Begich said ranked choice voting has added uncertainty and confusion to the federal election process. One of the main authors of the measure that led to ranked choice voting and open primaries in Alaska criticized the bill, saying it amounts to federal overreach.
