Redis 8 is GA—and has an open source option.

Get this. 30+ performance improvements. 87% faster commands. 2x more operations per second throughput. 18% faster replication. 16x more processing power with Redis Query Engine.

Phew. Need we say more? We will anyway.

Our latest Redis 8 release has eight new data structures, including vector sets—a new data type for vector similarity search developed by the creator of Redis, Salvatore Sanfilippo. Plus, we’ve changed the name of our free product from Redis Community Edition to Redis Open Source to reflect the addition of AGPLv3 as a licensing option.

Read about everything Redis 8 has to offer in the blog below.

The time is right for AGPL.

The release of Redis 8 marks a huge milestone in the company’s history. Not only is it the fastest, most feature-rich version of Redis yet, Redis 8 is also now available under the OSI-approved AGPLv3 open-source license.

The addition of AGPL allows us to do several things. It allows us to improve the Redis developer experience. With the new license, we’re able to fold Redis Stack technologies, including JSON, time series, probabilistic data types, Redis Query Engine, and more, into the core Redis product. Most importantly, it returns us to our open source roots and community. We’re incredibly excited to be back.

In the blog below, our CEO Rowan Trollope explains why the conditions were right for us to add the open source license.
