I’m not really reading fiction right now, to be honest. I can’t focus. I am not on twitter (I refuse to call the platform what it’s supposed to be now) much anymore, but I saw this tweet today from Trump, shared this morning by Gavin Newsom. If doesn’t totally alarm you, I don’t know what will. He is trying to rally his base, but I don’t think it will work. Too many people now ae against him. That said, this kind of rhetoric needs to be taken very seriously and called out. Repeatedly. By now you are well aware of the politically motivated assasinations in Minnessota of a state senator and her husband. The alleged killer, now in custody, apparently had a list of people he wanted to attack, and visited two other homes before he fatally shot Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. He also critically injured another senator, John Hoffman, and his wife Yvette. This is the kind of violent behavior that Trump’s words have encouraged— I’m not saying he’s responsible for the killings. But what he says and how he says it sets a tone, and is completely unacceptable. But after yesterday, I have hope. And the numbers reinfoce that. Americans of all kinds are extremely angry, do not agree with Trump is doing. The American Civil Liberties Union, a part of the coalition that put on the demonstrations, said in a late Saturday, June 14 statement that more than five million people participated in over 2,100 rallies and protests. Political organizing group Move On, who was a partner in the "No Kings" rallies, echoed the 5 million person estimate in a fundraising email. But it could take time to get final estimates. When is the next protest? I’m there. Today’s is a short post, more tomorrow. But I leave you with a photograph I took yesterday. Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow! Have a great Monday.
