But the most surprising aspect of Prada Mode might be just how un-Prada-centric the entire trip was — a rare feat of restraint in our era of Brand Activations Gone Wild: 

“Given the dire state of many luxury brands in 2025, it seemed significant that the brand could pull off such an uncommercial, highbrow cultural experience,” Johnson notes. “I couldn’t have bought anything with a Prada logo on it if I’d wanted to, and nothing about the experience, really, will ever reach the masses.” Any brand stands to benefit from the lesson here: Maybe obsess less over building “community” and a little more over simply being good for the culture. Real heads know that the noble leather shoe achieved its platonic ideal nearly two centuries ago in the hands of Tricker’s. The family-owned Northampton-based shoemaker has turned their ultra-traditional lace-ups into something of a sculptural tradition — Tricker’s team of 75 artisans uses the same lasts they’ve been using since the reign of George VI.

Even in our age of the sneaker, the influence of Tricker’s is unmissable for those with eyes to see. A signature Tricker’s boot, for example, has since inspired styles from Danner and Timberland. “Although with Tricker’s original,” notes the retailer Jason Pecarich, “all the pattern pieces fit into each other brilliantly with a combination of line and proportion that is much more refined. It’s like comparing a 1960s Jaguar to a 1980s Oldsmobile.” Read more

The designer’s second capsule collection, Snow Goose, lands this summer with a decided usefulness to its featherweight nylons and cargo pants.
