Good afternoon. It’s Monday, June 16.

In today's newsletter:

  • The oil explorer whose last major discovery in Alaska opened a new frontier for North Slope development believes he’s sitting on another promising find in a remote area.

  • Thousands of demonstrators jammed sidewalks Saturday in downtown Anchorage, chanting and waving signs in protest of President Donald Trump as part of the "No Kings" protests that were held across the country.

  • State transportation officials have shut down the 400-mile road to Alaska’s oil fields after “a significant flooding event,” washouts and erosion across a broad stretch of the Dalton Highway.

Looking for the perfect summer road trip snack? This recipe from Julia O'Malley has you covered. Toasty and chewy with butter and oat flour, these old “Joy of Cooking” chocolate chip cookies are a treasure from the past.

Anchorage weather

It's overcast today with a high near 64 degrees, though it should gradually become mostly sunny later in the day. The forecast calls for widespread haze on Tuesday and Wednesday, but we should see mostly sunny skies later in the week. Daytime temperatures will range from the low 60s to low 70s this week.
