Federal immigration agents arrested dozens of people after conducting a wave of raids across Boston and nearby communities over the weekend, just two days after the Trump administration filed a lawsuit against Boston and its mayor over the city’s sanctuary policy.

The administration has also hinted that it will ramp up immigration enforcement in other sanctuary cities, including Chicago where President Donald Trump’s has threatened to send in military forces. That’s prompted mass protests, as well as the postponement of a festival celebrating Mexican Independence Day — following a pattern of cities across the US canceling similar events.

Trump continued his rhetoric on Saturday, posting a meme on Truth Social that referenced “Apocalypse Now,” the 1979 film about the Vietnam War. “Chicago about to find out why it's called the Department of WAR,” he wrote, referring to the renaming of the Pentagon.

The ongoing threats have drawn strong rebukes from state and local officials, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. In a statement, she called the administration’s actions an effort to “‘bring hell’ to cities like Boston who refuse to bow down to their authoritarian agenda.” Read more from Myles Miller, Miranda Davis and Erin Ailworth report today on Bloomberg: ICE Arrests Dozens in Boston as Trump Signals Chicago Is Next
