| Hello. France's Prime Minister François Bayrou has lost a vote of confidence and is expected to resign. Correspondent Hugh Schofield explains what's next. In Brazil, my colleague Ione Wells looks at how the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro has divided the country. And finally, check out graffiti artist Banksy's latest mural. | |

| | Bayrou lost the vote of confidence by 364 votes to 194, with 25 abstentions. Credit: Reuters | A majority of France's members of parliament have voted to oust Prime Minister Bayrou's government. Bayrou, whose efforts to cut public spending to reduce the country's debt have proven unpopular, is expected to resign on Tuesday. President Emmanuel Macron intends to name a new prime minister – the fifth in two years – in the coming days. Finding someone who might be able to form a stable government and break the impasse, while some in the opposition are calling for new elections, is not likely to be an easy task. |

| Bolsonaro's trial exposes divisions | | Bolsonaro denies the charges, calling them politically motivated, a view shared by his supporters. Credit: Reuters | The trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro is coming to a close. On Tuesday, five Supreme Court justices will start to deliver their verdicts on whether he masterminded a coup to cling to power after losing the 2022 election. |

| | Like every other 7 September, Brazilians celebrated their country's independence from Portugal with military parades and barbecues. But with a verdict imminent in the trial on coup charges of former President Jair Bolsonaro, this year the day was also marked by rival rallies.
Erica, a protester who attended a large pro-Bolsonaro rally, said the trial was "just a big theatre because everyone knows his conviction is already determined". But there are many here who disagree. At a nearby rally of Bolsonaro opponents, Karina tells me: "I hope justice is done to show you can't do whatever you want for your own gain." |
