There are three fun, surprise teams atop the AFC after seven weeks. The 6-1 Colts have a high-powered offense, the 5-2 Patriots have a breakout star in Drake Maye, and the 5-2 Broncos have two dramatic, fourth-quarter comebacks.
But the AFC also has some bad teams — like, truly awful. The NFL’s four worst teams in point differential, and seven of the bottom eight, reside in the AFC — teams that look like they have given up, or can’t gain a simple first down, or are blaming their woes on injuries.
“This was a game that I didn’t see coming,” a stunned Pete Carroll said after his Raiders’ 31-0 loss to the Chiefs.
It’s a race to the bottom in the AFC.
