Coalition Member Spotlight
Fillip Consulting Brings Lectures on AI to 55+ Program
Barbara Fillip has been collaborating with Arlington County’s 55+ Program to help older adults explore how Artificial Intelligence can simplify daily life and support lifelong learning. Her workshops, including “Everyday AI,” “Prompting Skills for Lifelong Learning,” and “AI for Tech Troubleshooting,” use real scenarios and live demonstrations to turn abstract technology into something practical and approachable.
|
From these sessions, Barbara has seen that older adults bring deep problem-solving experience and curiosity to the table. Their prior experiences with technology vary widely, from confident early adopters to those just beginning to experiment, and so do their comfort levels exploring new tools. Reaching this diverse group requires flexible strategies that meet people where they are, both in terms of skills and geography.
Barbara looks forward to collaborating with others involved in Arlington’s Digital Equity Initiative and to expanding her work in 2026 to include new topics beyond Generative AI, focusing on the broader range of technologies that older adults encounter in everyday life.

Digital Equity Coalition Hosts Third Quarter Meeting at Microsoft
Members of the Digital Equity Coalition watch a presentation in a conference room at Microsoft's office in Rosslyn.
The Digital Equity Coalition met on September 19 at Microsoft’s Rosslyn office. The meeting spotlighted the recent County-funded projects, including ways Coalition members could collaborate with and support digital equity grantees. Microsoft then provided an overview of key features that could support Arlington’s community organizations:
- The various Employee Resources Groups that provide in-kind support for a range of community projects,
- The Microsoft Garage that offers hands on learning opportunities for the community, and
- The Microsoft Innovation Hub that showcases how AI machine learning is incorporated across several industries.
The group then toured the Innovation Hub Facility.
With approximately 50 in attendance, this meeting marks the largest gathering to date and another opportunity for information sharing and partnership development.
