Happy Friday. The world has spent much of the past two decades getting steadily grumpier, but our feel-good analysis explains why people are suddenly cheering up. Some parts of the world are more contented than others (those perennially perky Danes), but age is a factor too. 

Londoners like me may feel more down in the dumps. Bashing the capital is an ancient political sport in Britain, and the current Labour government is no different. Many of its policies disproportionately harm the most productive part of the country. If we feel this is unfair treatment, we’ve partly got ourselves to blame.
