Dear Waynewood Owls,
What a fantastic week we’ve had! We are still feeling the energy and excitement of our Fall Fun Night on Thursday. Seeing so many of our students, families, and staff together, enjoying the beautiful evening, was truly a highlight of the year. The Trunk or Treat cars were so creative, the DJ kept the spooky tunes spinning, and the pizza fueled all the fun and games. It’s moments like these that make our Waynewood community so special. A heartfelt thank you goes out to every single person who volunteered—from those who designed amazing trunks and ran games to those who helped set up and, especially, those who stayed late to clean up. Your generosity and spirit made the night a huge success!
I also want to give a special shout-out and thank you to our phenomenal PTA Fall Fun Night chairs, Katie Denis and Jenny Burek, who poured countless hours into organizing this incredible event. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group of parents leading the way.
On the school operations front, I have a quick but exciting update regarding our new solar panel project. This week, Mrs. Cachine met with representatives from Dominion Energy Solutions to nail down the logistics. We're getting closer to the start line and currently anticipate the installation will begin in November. We’ll be sharing more specific information on the timeline and any temporary changes very soon, so please keep an eye out for that communication. It's wonderful to see Waynewood taking such a big step toward sustainability!
As we wrap up October, please remember that next week marks the end of the first quarter of the school year. Our students have worked incredibly hard, and we're so proud of all the learning and growth they've accomplished. Please mark your calendars for a few important dates: Friday, October 31st, will be a two-hour early release day. Following that, students will have a four-day weekend, as there is no school for students on Monday, November 3rd, and Tuesday, November 4th. This time allows our teachers to finalize report cards and engage in important professional development. Finally, please note that our picture make-up day for any student who missed the original date will be on Thursday, November 6th.
Sincerely,
Katie Cachine, Principal
Alyssa Bonner, Assistant Principal
Allison Ovalle, Assistant Principal

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. We will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, November 12.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
