One of the best new features in Apple Inc.’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max is the vapor chamber, a liquid-cooling system that helps tame the heat generated by the smartphones’ powerful chips.

Apple didn’t invent the concept — it’s been in devices from Samsung Electronics Co. and others for years — but the company turned it into a high-profile selling point and reason to upgrade. If you’ve used an iPhone 15 Pro or 16 Pro, you know that the titanium frame often made those models uncomfortably hot to hold.
