Open Philanthropy roles

Open Philanthropy is hiring for multiple roles in the coming weeks (Disclaimer: Open Philanthropy is 80,000 Hours' largest funder). As Open Philanthropy’s Global Catastrophic Risks (GCR) portfolio grows rapidly, leadership and grantmaking capacity have become increasingly important constraints. They're hoping to unlock tens of millions of dollars in impactful grantmaking in 2026 with each of these roles, so suffice to say these are promising, leveraged opportunities! They’re hiring for:

• Senior generalist roles across the Global Catastrophic Risks team (Nov 20 deadline): These roles will work closely alongside senior GCR leaders, influence strategic decisions, independently own large projects, and steer the growth of their teams:
  • Chief of Staff, Global Catastrophic Risks
  • Chief of Staff, Technical AI Safety
  • Chief of Staff, Short Timelines Special Projects
  • Associate Program Officer, AI Governance & Policy
• Technical roles on the Technical AI Safety team (Nov 24 deadline): These roles will recommend grants for technical research aimed at reducing catastrophic risks from AI, and help advance the team’s strategy. The team is hiring at all levels of seniority.

80,000 Hours podcast roles

We're also hiring at 80,000 Hours! Specifically, the podcast team is looking to hire two people for three possible roles. No matter the role, you'll be helping the podcast team influence the decisions that matter most — helping people identify high-leverage career moves and important actions they can take in their current positions. The podcast team is composed of lovely people and I think anybody would be very lucky to work with them. That's my pitch!

• Podcast Growth Specialist: In this role, you'd oversee the packaging, promotion, and distribution of the team's content, figuring out how to reach the right people and how to measure what’s working.
• Research Specialist / Research Assistant: In this role, you'd specialise in identifying what topics to cover, who to talk to, and what questions to ask them.
• Podcast Producer / Content Strategist: In this role, you'd own episodes end-to-end, from helping select topics and guests through to launching the final episodes and assessing their impact.
