Dear Kings Park Families,
We hope everyone has been keeping safe and warm during this blast of winter-like weather. As temperatures drop, please make sure students come to school dressed warmly each day. We want everyone to enjoy outdoor recess safely and comfortably whenever conditions allow. It’s also a good idea to label your child’s winter clothing so lost items can be more easily returned.
There are two weeks of school before Winter Break and we’re excited for all that’s ahead. This week is Computer Science in Education Week and Book Fair Week. This Wednesday, December 10th, is a 3-Hour Early Release Wednesday for grades K-3, Book Fair Night (3:30pm-6:00pm) and the next PTA meeting (5:00pm). We look forward to seeing many of our families at these events.

Computer Science in Education Week, December 8th-12th
Computer Science in Education Week is this week. Kings Park students attend STEAM/Strategies Lab and Library each week.
During these lessons the students focus on the engineering design model, Portrait of a Graduate Skills, Critical and Creative Thinking Lessons and Computational Thinking Strategies of pattern recognition, abstraction (pulling out the important details), decomposition (breaks things into parts), and algorithmic thinking (following a set of steps).
We help our young learners understand these concepts in age-appropriate ways. They explore plugged and unplugged activities to learn and practice these essential skills. This week, Kings Park students will be exploring coding activities through the use of Beebot robots, Ozobot robots and Microbits. You can access the Library, STEAM, and Strategies Lab Schoology Course to view some of these activities.
You can also visit the FCPS Computer Science Principles page and the FCPS STEAM and Computer Science page for more information.
