This year, I found the idea of doing it tiring. Everything already felt like too much, and this seemed like just another task. But then I reminded myself that this doesn’t have to be a burden. Maybe I was just overthinking it. This is supposed to be fun! Anything that brings new clarity is an energy booster, not a drainer.
I love those because they look simple on the surface, yet have a way of provoking brutally honest reflection and bring new clarity. In the end, I was glad I made the time to answer them. I hope they spark something meaningful for you, too.
If you were the main character of the movie that is your life, and you had an audience, what would the audience be screaming at you to do?
What are you most proud of from the last year?
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If you were struck by lightning and suddenly awoke as your fully enlightened self, what behaviors would you look back on with horror?
Make a “want to feel” list instead of a to-do list.
What’s the most valuable life lesson you learned this year?
What are you ready to leave behind in 2026? What no longer fits who you’re becoming?
Word of the year: Take all your goals and intentions for 2026 and roll them into just one word.
If you could flash forward to December 2026, what would it take for you to look back and call it a good year? This one is similar to my “classic” end-of-year reflection you might remember, the Future-Gratefulness-Letter, where you write a journal entry and imagine it’s exactly one year from now: Picture yourself as if it’s December 2026, and write down what you are thankful for, as if it’s already happened.
Describe your perfect Tuesday, 5 years from today. Be very detailed and specific.I’m aware this is a little jump in the timeline, but while we’re at it, why not take it a step further! This is never not helpful.
I want to thank all of you Present People reading my letters and wish you the best year ever. Thank you for following me on my journey. May you find focus and clarity to go for whatever your Thing is, to get yourself closer to whatever makes you feel alive. There is no one on this earth like you. Take care of yourself. And keep on pursuing your Thing. Yours,
