We had just brought home a new rescue kitten, and we were enjoying playing with him in the yard for the first time. Michelangelo had oodles of energy and was soon running us ragged. Besides getting acquainted, it was also time to start litter box training and teaching our new family member the basic kitty rules.
Anticipating this day, I had been reading some articles and books on behavior modification. It was a subject especially interesting to me because I am a Doctor of Psychology. Amy Sutherland’s New York Times article that became a viral sensation, as well as her subsequent book, stood out on my reading list. In “What Shamu Taught Me About Life, Love and Marriage” she explained that she attempted (and succeeded) to modify her husband’s behavior, using the same principles that she trained her dog with.
