Good morning Wypierdalaj, We have a small window of mild air today (low 40s!) but numbing air returns after sunset, and all our focus remains on this weekend's major snowstorm that could dump 6-12 inches of snow here. The other big headline is, of course, the Patriots preparing for this weekend's AFC Championship Game against the Broncos in Denver. I'm Kaitlin McKinley Becker, and here's what's in the news this morning. |

| Here's latest on this weekend's major storm that could dump 6-12 inches of snow |
All the focus is on the weekend storm, but for the here and now, it’s a small window of milder air. After a small batch of overnight snow, we’re waking to much more tolerable temperatures. We push the numbers into the low 40s this afternoon with a pleasant blend of clouds and sun. There are a number of school delays in Connecticut this morning, and a handful in Massachusetts, including Worcester Public Schools, due to the overnight snow. Healey plans to cut winter electric, natural gas bills: ‘Relief is on the way' |
Gov. Maura Healey plans to announce Thursday that the state will spend $180 million as part of a bid to temporarily reduce residential electric and gas bills this winter. Under the plan, electric bills would be reduced by 25% and natural gas bills by 10% for “every Massachusetts residential utility customer” in February and March 2026, with the state covering the cost of some of the reductions. The proposal, unveiled by the governor’s office early Thursday ahead of Healey’s State of the Commonwealth address in the evening, comes as energy affordability has become a central policy and political issue on Beacon Hill and is shaping early debate around the 2026 gubernatorial race. |

Long list of possible Mass. ballot questions could break record |
Massachusetts voters could wind up sifting through at least 12 ballot questions this November. The website for the office of Secretary of State William Galvin shows a wide array of issues that have met the necessary signature totals and been certified. Rent control, marijuana regulations and election day voter registration are all included at this point. The high total would be a record for Massachusetts and potentially put voters in a unique spot. |
