A letter from our editor:
Here in New York, we're preparing for a winter storm to come this weekend. There was a winter storm last weekend, too. It's that time of year when making plans to leave the house feels less and less urgent. In a city where every commute involves some walking — even if it is just stepping out of your Uber and over the snow and ice piled up along the curb — the chill in the air reroutes our patterns to the highest degree.
New Yorkers aren't known for homesteading, really. We keep our shoes in the oven, have to leave the house to do our laundry, and even have our crying sessions on the street. Brisk winter days are one of the few occasions for staying in that is universally agreed upon amongst city denizens. And when every weekend brings a new, colder front, even the most characteristic New Yorkers might start to think about how to make their home accommodating to their new life: One that involves being at home much more than usual.
When the world is frozen over with winter, the color is drained from the landscape and scents that usually drift through the air are halted. Any small pleasure depends on that feeling of coming back home, opening the door, and feeling the warm air rush over you. In an apartment like mine, in a 100+ year-old brownstone, the windows let in a draft while the radiators struggle to keep up with plummeting temperatures. So, to truly stay warm, it takes blankets, nourishing teas, and restorative yet comforting light. These elements don’t just warm up the body; they are moments of enjoyment and simple pleasure that reinvigorate us during the stark winter months. I've been devoting myself to goods that support winter rituals, so that life feels more like home. I'm excited to share them with you.
Warmly, Ashley Senior Editor

DESIGN
When I furnished my new apartment last summer, I didn’t anticipate how essential a warm, well-made blanket would be — so now I’m shopping these wool options.
