Principal's Message
Safety Message to Greenbriar West ES, Rocky Run MS, and
Chantilly HS Community
Dear Greenbriar West ES, Rocky Run MS, and Chantilly HS communities,
I am writing to share an important safety reminder regarding traffic conditions during the morning arrival and afternoon dismissal related to students coming and going from Greenbriar West ES (GBW) property. Recently, we have received several reports of unsafe driving behaviors on GBW property during the drop off / pick-up windows for Thomas Jefferson High School, Rocky Run Middle School, and Chantilly High School. We are proud of GBW’s central location in our Chantilly community and recognize that several crucial walking paths intersect on our GBW property helping to provide safe and easy access to several FCPS students as well as ideal bus stops for other FCPS schools.
As we continue to support this partnership between schools, here are some safety reminders for parents who drop off or pick up students on or near Greenbriar West ES property:
-
Do Not Block Fire Lanes: These areas must always remain clear for emergency vehicle access.
-
Reduce Your Speed: Please drive slowly and cautiously while on or near any FCPS school properties.
-
Exercise Hypervigilance: Be extremely watchful for students using crosswalks. Students can be unpredictable, and high-volume traffic requires our full attention.
-
Follow Traffic Patterns: Please be patient and respectful of our staff members who are directing traffic to keep our students safe.
Greenbriar West ES is proud to be a collaborative member of our larger Chantilly community, and we need your help to ensure that every student—from our youngest preschoolers to our local high schoolers—gets to and from school safely each day. Thank you for your cooperation as we work collaboratively as a community to improve the safety of our students, our drivers, and our community.
Sincerely,
Andrew Blount
Principal

2026-27 Kindergarten Survey
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please help us with projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2026, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.
If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2026, please complete this form and return it by February 7, 2026. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Greenbriar West families who do not have children currently attending school.
The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2026-2027 school year. Please email the completed form to Patty Li at pli@fcps.edu. We thank you in advance for returning the form by February 7, 2026.
Upcoming Student Experience Survey at Greenbriar West ES
Our school will participate in the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. Any student may take the survey at home, if they are unable to take the survey during the school day. You will receive a communication with details on how to preview the survey and opt your child out, if you choose.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which include a focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.
We are proud to share that Greenbriar West Elementary is officially recognized as a Common Sense Media Recognized School!
Common Sense Media is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students become safe, responsible, and ethical users of technology. Through age-appropriate lessons and resources, Common Sense Media supports digital citizenship skills such as online safety, media balance, digital footprints, cyberbullying prevention, and responsible use of technology.
This recognition reflects our school’s commitment to teaching students how to navigate the digital world thoughtfully and responsibly. At Greenbriar West, students learn how to:
- Use technology safely and respectfully
- Think critically about online content
- Protect their privacy and personal information
- Develop healthy habits with media and screen time
By integrating Common Sense Media’s digital citizenship curriculum into our learning, we are empowering students with skills they need not only for academic success, but for life beyond the classroom.
Thank you to our teachers, staff, students, and families for supporting responsible technology use and helping us earn this important recognition. We are excited to continue partnering with families to build strong digital citizens at Greenbriar West.
