  • Gov. Mike Dunleavy said that he will introduce new taxes, including a "temporary seasonal sales tax concept," in his eighth and final year in office.

  • Alaska lawmakers voted against overriding the governor's veto of a bill that passed the Legislature last year and was intended to apply the state's corporate income tax to companies operating online.

  • A nonprofit organization has launched a marketing campaign intended to attract educators to Alaska from the Lower 48 in order to quell a statewide teacher shortage.

Dunleavy to introduce sales tax 'concept' in final year as governor →

Gov. Mike Dunleavy described the plan as a "temporary, seasonal sales tax concept." He said he will propose a fiscal plan with "multiple components" that is intended to "inject stability" in the five years that follow the end of his eight years as governor.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy had vetoed the bill in September, saying at the time that he was opposed to signing "stand-alone" tax bills.
