A Message from the PTA President
Dear Hunt Valley Families,
Winter weather is on the horizon! The PTA is monitoring the weekend snow situation in regards to the upcoming Saturday Ice Skate Night. We will keep you posted through Facebook and our PTA website, if event details change. You can always email me, as well, if you have questions.
PTA is excited for tomorrow’s Book Swap. Please feel free to send us a picture of your kiddo’s book selection and let us know what they think. It’s always fun to see what they choose for themselves. In our family’s experience, it’s not always the obvious choice that comes home but the new selections open up some fun reading adventures! There are still a few spots open to volunteer during the Swap. Click here!
On behalf of the PTA and Hunt Valley parents, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you and good luck to Assistant Principal Chrissy Gibbs, who will be moving to another school next week. We thank you for your years of hard work and dedication to our children, your cheery and bright attitude, and your willingness to help out with school and PTA initiatives. You will be very missed and your new school doesn’t realize what a gem they are getting. The Hunt Valley Hawks will always be your school family and we hope you are able to come visit us at future events. From me, personally, I wish you fair winds and following seas.

Hunt Valley 3rd Annual Scripps Spelling Bee
Register your child for the Scripps National Spelling Bee at Hunt Valley! The 2025-26 Hunt Valley Scripps Spelling Bee is open to Kindergarten through 6th grade students and will be held at the Hunt Valley Cafeteria on Friday, February 20, 2025, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

All interested students must register in advance for the Bee and will receive a word study list. The winner will advance to the Fairfax County Spelling Bee.

Box Tops for SCA
Support the SCA through the Box Tops for Education program! Gone are the days of cutting “Box Tops” from cereal boxes. Download the Box Tops app, choose Hunt Valley as your school to support and scan your paper receipts or upload digital ones!

Ice Skate Night
Join us at the Fairfax Ice Arena for Hunt Valley's Skate Night on Saturday, January 24th from 6:45 pm-8:15 pm. Please arrive by 6:15 pm to get tickets and check-in. This is a private event open only to Hunt Valley Elementary students and their families. Discounted rates for skating--adult or child, $5.75 per person and skate rental is $4.00 per person. Fairfax Ice Arena is located at 3779 Pickett Road, Fairfax, VA 22031. Any changes to this event due to weather will be posted through Facebook and our PTA website.
Science Fair/STEAM Night
Put on your thinking caps! It’s time to brainstorm a project for the Science Fair! New this year, the Science Fair (projects made by our HVE students) and STEAM Night (STEAM-related vendors and displays) will be combined into one fantastic evening.

Music Grant from the HV PTA
The music department was awarded a grant of $1000 from PTA funds to purchase new instruments and materials that will benefit all Hunt Valley students. Ms. Shumaker and Mr. Bennett want to extend their sincere appreciation for the grant and are so grateful for the support.  Help Wanted!
PTA is in planning mode for spring and beyond! We have a very dedicated core group of volunteers who are absolutely essential to the success of our events but we are always looking for some fresh faces to help enrich our students’ lives. Please consider volunteering your time and efforts in these upcoming areas!
Spelling Bee Judges - February 20 from 6-8PM
Three judges are needed to make this event happen. Word lists and instructions will be provided. You do not need to be a master speller yourself to help out! Please email spellingbee@huntvalleypta.org to volunteer or ask questions.
Spring Book Fair - March 9-13
We are looking for volunteers to work short shifts at the Book Fair, helping students make their selections, budget for their choices, and check out their new books. Experienced Book Fair volunteers - we are looking for shift Captains! For more information or to express your volunteer interest, please email bookfair@huntvalleypta.org.
STEAM/Science Fair - March 18
Our STEAM Coordinator and Science Fair Coordinator will need volunteer assistance with the execution of this year’s combined STEAM/Science Fair. This event will be a partnership between PTA and the school. Please save the date and consider volunteering a little time to help make this amazing event a success!
Spring Festival Planning Committee - May 15
PTA is beginning the planning process for this year’s last major event. We would love to have a committee of several volunteers to all work together and bring this fun-filled evening to life! Although the date is several months away, this is an immediate need, as we will start our initial planning soon! Please email president@huntvalleypta.org with interest in joining the Spring Festival Planning Committee.
Positions for next school year
As we move toward the end of the 2nd quarter, PTA is already planning for the 2026-2027 school year. There are MANY ways to be involved, from an elected position on the PTA Executive Board, to Coordinator positions for different events or areas. Please reach out to info@huntvalleypta.org if you're able to help support your PTA and would like to get more info. If you were a Chair/Coordinator this year and would like to continue next year, please let us know so we can mark that position as filled. A comprehensive list of vacant positions will be compiled soon.
Reflections Contest Winners Announced
