IDM Notification: external email issue impacting some users trying to get MFA codes (Thu Jan 22, 2026)

This message is to inform you about an external outage impacting some users not being able to get MFA codes via email.

Since approximately 2:38 PM ET on Thursday, 1/22/2026 some user's have been experiencing problems receiving MFA codes via email.  CMS support teams are actively monitoring this and have traced this back to an external email provider.  User's impacted can follow this status page for more details about the external email service provider:

Note that this does impact some CMS contractors with CMS email addresses as well as some other users whose company email services rely upon the M365 services.  Not all users are impacted and users who have setup alternate MFA delivery devices (such as SMS, voice, Google Authenticator or Okta Verify) may use those other MFA delivery methods which are not impacted.
