January 22nd, 2026
Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,
Learning was in plentiful supply around FHES this week. Students are completing mid-year assessments and there are many celebrations to be had regarding student achievement, growth and improvement. Next week will mark the end of the second quarter. As we approach the midway point of the school year, please take time to reflect with your students on their achievements this year.
As we prepare for the potential of a significant winter storm, please be sure to check for updates about our upcoming school and PTA events. We have lots of opportunities to look forward to including Science Night, the Spelling Bee, a Silent Auction, Heritage Night, Skate Night, and more!
Be sure to see the flyers below for upcoming events, calendar updates and FHES opportunities.
Kindly,
Mr. Montaquila, Principal
Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal

Gone are the days of digging through emails or hunting for bookmarks. The FCPS app provides a custom experience that is both powerful and easy to use. Here is how it makes life easier:
- Customized for Your Family: Do you have students at two (or more!) different schools? You can "follow" multiple schools to get a feed of news, notices, and events specific to your family.
- No Sign-In Required: Access essential content like district-wide announcements, live updates, and school calendars instantly — no password to remember, no login required.
- Real-Time Notifications: Get push notifications for urgent updates — including weather announcements! — ensuring you never miss an important announcement from the district or your school.
- Everything in One Place: From bell schedules and staff directories to athletic event locations and school menus, the app is a central hub for all things FCPS.
To ensure every family stays informed, the app supports automatic translation for more than 100 languages. Learn more about the app, or download it today in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities
We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather. Classes will continue to have outdoor recess most days during the winter as conditions allow.
If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.

This exciting evening will feature student-created science displays, a live demonstration by Emily Calandrelli (The Space Gal), and a chance for students to write a postcard that will travel into space.
Whether your child wants to demonstrate their own science project (sign up here!) or come explore, Science Night promises something for everyone.
Please see the informationbelow! We hope to see you there!

When: March 21 from 7 to 10PM
Where: Jammin' Java
Get ready for a parents-only Silent Auction night on Saturday, March 21, filled with drinks, food, dancing, and live music at Jammin' Java. It’s shaping up to be a fun, festive night out while supporting our school community.
To make this event a success, we’ll need help from our amazing parents with securing silent auction items, day-of support, and organizing donations as they come in. In addition, each class will be creating a themed basket for parents to bid on, so please keep an eye out for more information from your room parents soon.
More details to come, but please save the date and reach out to Amy Zheng at fundraising@fhespta.org if you are able to volunteer or sign up below!

For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again. Our yearbook theme this year is “Our Shared Home”.
Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap. Access Code: flinthill25 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook. We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.
Remember to Pre-Order your Yearbook! You wouldn’t want to miss out.

Paperless Opt-Outs Available!
As a part of our ongoing efforts to streamline paper processes, parents can now select a number of opt-out’s electronically via ParentVUE. Once you have signed into your ParentVUE account, simply select the “Student Info” tab and click on “Edit Information.” You will find opt-out’s listed there. Parents that do not yet have a ParentVUE account will still be able to use paper forms for notification. If you need to set up your ParentVUE account, you can create one online via the FCPS ParentVUE Registration page.
