How Should Arlington Balance its Budget?

An orange diamond sign on a paved road warns of a "Rough Road" ahead.

Arlington County faces a difficult decision-making process as it looks to balance spending with revenue for the 2027 fiscal year, which starts July 1, 2026.

To help us better understand the needs of the community and to inform the County Manager as he develops his proposed budget, we're asking you to share your feedback on potential ways to save money and increase revenue.

Project & Program Updates

The words "Snow Reminders" appear as a shoveled path on snow-covered ground.

Winter weather is in the forecast! Be sure to clear your sidewalk of snow and ice so our community is safe and walkable. Consider helping your neighbors if they need it Stay safe, warm, and informed:

  • The County’s snow removal ordinance requires all Arlington property owners to clear snow and ice from public sidewalks adjacent to their property within a designated time period. Find details here.

A green banner with trees reads, "Get the Low Down on the Low Residential Study."

Arlington wants to reduce flooding and extreme heat. To help do this, the County is considering setting a limit on impervious surfaces in lower‑density, residential neighborhoods. The County Board has asked staff to study possible changes to the Zoning Ordinance that would support improving the stormwater system and increasing the tree canopy.
