Dear Chantilly Community,
The safety of the students and families in our Chantilly and surrounding school community is our priority. I ask that you please review the letter below from Principal Andrew Blount from Greenbriar West ES regarding unsafe driving practices observed during Chantilly arrival and dismissal. Please help keep our community safe by:
- Using Chantilly's Kiss and Ride lanes for safe drop off of students
- Arriving after 3 PM to pick students up in the CHS parking lot
- Avoiding parking in the Greenbriar neighborhood adjacent to GBWES, public library, and Kindercare-Baseball lot
I know that many of you share in the excitement of the potential of a big winter storm that is forecast for our area beginning this weekend. Please review the winter weather reminders below from FCPS. WE also encourage all of our Chargers to make sure they have their FCPS laptops, chargers, and personal devices at home, and that they access Schoology and fcpsschools.net emails regularly for updates!
Prepare for Winter Weather
Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.
Sincerely,
Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D.
Principal, Chantilly HS

Dear Greenbriar West ES, Rocky Run MS, and Chantilly HS communities,
I am writing to share an important safety reminder regarding traffic conditions during the morning arrival and afternoon dismissal related to students coming and going from Greenbriar West ES (GBW) property. Recently, we have received several reports of unsafe driving behaviors on GBW property during the drop off / pick-up windows for Thomas Jefferson High School, Rocky Run Middle School, and Chantilly High School. We are proud of GBW’s central location in our Chantilly community and recognize that several crucial walking paths intersect on our GBW property helping to provide safe and easy access to several FCPS students as well as ideal bus stops for other FCPS schools.
As we continue to support this partnership between schools, here are some safety reminders for parents who drop off or pick up students on or near Greenbriar West ES property:
-
Do Not Block Fire Lanes: These areas must always remain clear for emergency vehicle access.
-
Reduce Your Speed: Please drive slowly and cautiously while on or near any FCPS school properties.
-
Exercise Hypervigilance: Be extremely watchful for students using crosswalks. Students can be unpredictable, and high-volume traffic requires our full attention.
-
Follow Traffic Patterns: Please be patient and respectful of our staff members who are directing traffic to keep our students safe.
Greenbriar West ES is proud to be a collaborative member of our larger Chantilly community, and we need your help to ensure that every student—from our youngest preschoolers to our local high schoolers—gets to and from school safely each day. Thank you for your cooperation as we work collaboratively as a community to improve the safety of our students, our drivers, and our community.
Sincerely,
Andrew Blount
Principal
Greenbriar West ES

We have adjusted the schedule for Fairy Tale High School. The Sunday, 2 p.m. performance is moving to Saturday, 4:30 p.m. Sunday tickets are valid for any other performance.
The Chantilly High School Drama Department is proud to present our Theatre for Young Audiences Show: Fairy Tale High School! TYA Shows are designed with our youngest audience members in mind: Preschool through Elementary School!
What if your favorite fairy tale characters were all students in the same high school? Jack's best friend Jill encourages him to sell his beloved toy cow on the internet. Cindy is teased by her step-sisters when she tries out for the track team. And what's with all the rumors about the mysterious Wolf Man? Narrated by the bumbling Principal Grimm, this fast-paced comedy concludes, of course, with the "Happily Ever After Dance."
Performances -
January 23 at 7 p.m., January 24 at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Canceled: January 25 at 2 p.m. Purchase tickets at chantillydrama.org

Welcome back, Chargers! As we gear up for the second half of the school year, we want to highlight the vital role regular attendance plays in student success. Our community thrives when young minds are present, nurtured, and engaged; every day in the classroom is a building block for your student’s development.
Many families may not realize that any day missed for any reason (whether excused or unexcused) counts toward a student’s chronic absenteeism rate. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school year. To put this into perspective, this equates to only 4 to 5 days per quarter!
To keep you informed, every family will soon receive an Attendance Report Card. This summary will include total days enrolled, total absences (excused and unexcused), and the overall absence percentage for the year so far. Please know that these updates are intended as another communication tool, not a judgment on the validity of your family's specific circumstances.
We urge parents and guardians to collaborate with our school support teams to encourage consistent attendance. Together, we can ensure every student receives the high-quality education they deserve.
Thank you for your continued support!

Enhancing Safety and Security for Staff and Students
School safety and security are being enhanced across FCPS with a new emergency management system. The system includes sensors installed in schools and a wearable emergency response button (ERB) for staff.
The button allows staff to quickly and discreetly request help and, once pressed, they provide location information within the school. The ERB will only work on school grounds and does not rely on cellular service. It is not meant to replace calling 911, but is an additional safety tool that can be used if calling 911 may not be safe or practical.
Learn more about the emergency management system. You may submit questions to the FCPS Chief of Safety and Security Office
