Yearbooks are available for pre-order! Yearbooks are $25 if ordered by May 31 and will be available for pickup at Cunningham Park. Yearbook purchased on or after June 1 will be $30.

 Bike & Roll to School Day invites Cunningham Park to celebrate the joys of active commuting while building a sense of community, safety, and school spirit. On the morning of Wednesday May 6th, we'll have special guests waiting for you at the school. After the second bell and the students have gone to class, we will hold our 3rd and final PTA meeting of the year. We'll be taking nominations from the floor to vote on next year's PTA Board. Don't miss out on coffee and breakfast pastries.
Cunningham Park and the PTA work together to represent you at engagements with our Superintendent by means of the Superintendent's Family Vision Group. Cunningham Park Parent Erica Lee brings you notes from the latest discussions with Dr. Reid.
- FCPS speakers included Dr. Reid, Sloan Presidio (Chief Academic Officer), and Gautam Sethi (Chief Technology Officer)

- The School Board is drafting an AI policy for the 26-27 school year
- Teachers have access to enterprise versions of ChatGPT and Gemini - meaning they have access to non-public versions that have more privacy and security. Teachers have the option of taking professional development on using generative AI (genAI). Schools' tech specialists are taking trainings on using genIA.
- FCPS does not allow students to access generative AI (for example, ChatGPT, Gemini) on school computers. However, a parent shared that their child told her that many of his classmates [maybe in high school, unsure]were using work-arounds and "proxies" to access genAI on their school computers. The child felt frustrated that he was doing his school work without such aides, while his classmates were "cheating."
- FCPS is focusing on teaching kids AI literacy in high school, including ethical use. FCPS wants to help kids see AI as a learning tool that "teaches, not tells." For example, AI could help a student who is struggling on a math problem walk through steps to solve it. It can also help students whose first language is not English and special needs students who may need some additional supports to complete schoolwork.
- Some parents suggested that all tests should be done on paper, to ensure there is no use of AI. Sloan shared that he has heard some teachers moving in this direction, but he is not sure it makes sense as a blanket policy. As kids will have access to AI, and it will likely become important for college and career, it is important that kids learn how to use it responsibly.
- FCPS wants to support parents in managing AI use at home. Thinking about a parent academy on AI. A parent said it would be helpful to know what teachers are teaching students/tips, so parents can be consistent with the messaging at home.
- Some parents suggested that FCPS need to better educate children on critical thinking - those are the skills that will be important in this changing job market. Kids need to learn to struggle; something that AI lets them get out of too easily.
