Dr. Christine Ritter

A Message from Principal Ritter

Dear Kings Glen Families,

And just like that the 2025-2026 school year has come to a close! We are so proud of our Gators and all the growth they have made this year. This summer, we hope that our students are able to unplug, read, and enjoy a safe, happy, and restful break!

We want to extend our heartfelt thank you to all of you for your active involvement, for cheering at our events and for collaborating with our teachers and staff to ensure that each student thrived.

Over the summer, be on the lookout for special editions of Gator Bytes that will contain information and important dates for the 2026-2027 school year. Our summer office hours are 9:00-1:00 Monday-Friday.

We hope that everyone has a wonderful summer break!

FCPS Summer Learning Resources

FCPS Summer Learning Resources are now available for students and families. Resources are organized by grade level and provide opportunities for students to review previously taught concepts, practice skills, and explore new ideas throughout the summer.

Families can access the resources at any time as one of many ways to support continued learning and engagement over the summer.

Additional resources will continue to be added throughout June.

Early Release Wednesdays for 2026-27

FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number of days has been reduced from eight to four.

Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

Please view the dates for our school’s early release Wednesdays below:

  • September 30
  • November 18
  • January 13
  • April 7

Visit the FCPS website for more information about early release Wednesdays.

Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Adventure: Unearth A Story

June 17 – August 19

All Gators AND their grownups are encouraged to participate in the Fairfax County Summer Reading Adventure, which begins on June 17th.  Families can pre-register at https://fairfaxcounty.beanstack.org/reader365 starting today (June 10) and begin reading on the last day of school.  All readers in your family can earn virtual badges by reading and listening to books and completing activities related to reading.  Once you have met the reading goals for your age/grade, you can visit any Fairfax County Public Library branch to receive prizes for finishing the program.   Families may also participate by completing paper reading logs which can be picked up at any FCPL branch starting on the last day of school.  Check out some of the great prizes here.

More Summer Reading Challenges

White House Summer Reading Challenge:  The White House has also announced a Summer Reading Challenge.  All children in grades K-8 are encouraged to join in the Second Lady’s 2026 Summer Reading Challenge. Readers simply need to read and track 12 books of their choice June 1-September 4.  After completion, readers will receive a personalized certificate, an America 250th anniversary themed bookmark, and a special link to receive a prize.  Readers will also be entered for a chance to visit the White House.  Reading logs can be downloaded and submitted here.

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Challenge:  Read any 8 books and visit Barnes & Noble 4 times this summer to win a free book!  More details here.

Pizza Hut Book It Summer of Stories Challenge:  YOU set a reading goal for your child (we recommend 30 minutes a day) for June through August, and any child that meets that goal can get a Personal Pan Pizza from participating Pizza Hut locations for EACH MONTH of summer!  (That’s 3 pizzas!)  Set the goal that will work best with your child and family.  More info here.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families

Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.
