Our sixth graders took their final walk through the halls as Roadrunners while younger students cheered them on.
A Message from Principal Pietzman
Dear GBE Families,
It’s hard to believe another school year has ended! As we wrap up an incredible school year, we want to take a moment to reflect on our community's amazing accomplishments and express our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this year so special. The dedication of our staff, students, and families is making a tremendous impact on the academic achievement and spirit of GBE!
Our amazing GBE PTA went above and beyond to help us finish the school year strong! From the energy of the One Greenbriar Basketball Game to helping make Staff Appreciation Week a success, their support has been unmatched. Thank you to our phenomenal outgoing board members, Nick Maison, Meghan Neff, Karima Evans, and Oyu Eagle, for their leadership over the last two years. Because of their tireless work, we are incredibly proud to share that our PTA was named an Impactful PTA of the Year by the Fairfax County Council PTA! This was a great way to end a tremendous two years focused on strengthening our school community. We are thrilled to announce that Brian Smith will serve as our next PTA President and Leah Smith will serve as our next PTA Vice President! We look forward to continuing our wonderful PTA partnership between our families and school!
We also want to send a special shout-out to Rubina Buchanan for her fantastic leadership in organizing the Deloitte Impact Day at GBE! Thanks to that hard work, our school grounds and cafeteria received a beautiful refresh. Our GBE students are so lucky to have families committed to making GBE a great place to be!
Our students have soared to new heights this year, and the data shows just how hard they have worked! In math, 182 students accessed advanced math this year compared to 19 students five years ago! Even more impressive? 100% of our 5th and 6th graders who took an above-grade-level math SOL, including Algebra 1, passed this spring! We also continue to see phenomenal literacy growth across all grades. Looking at Kindergarten through 3rd Grade, the number of students scoring in the "low risk" band on the VALLSS assessment improved from 149 students in the fall to 192 students in the spring! Our attendance rate continues to improve! Attendance matters, and our community stepped up. We successfully decreased our Chronic Absenteeism rate below 10% for the first time since 2020! Go GBE!
Over 90% of our staff will be returning next school year for the second year in a row! We can’t wait to build on the success this school year to reach even higher goals in the fall! I want to thank our staff leaving GBE for all their service to our school community! We wish them the best as they start new adventures!

We look forward to seeing everyone else back at GBE in August for another exciting school year!
Sincerely,
Dave Pietzman, NBCT
Principal

Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.
Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families.
Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.
Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay Connected
On Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”
The email will include instructions to activate a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact Araceli Nunez at anunez@fcps.edu to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed.
All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.
