Hello Bull Run Families,
As we wrap up this school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we have made together as a school community. At Bull Run Elementary, we have worked hard to create a positive and supportive environment for our students, emphasizing accountability, respect, and a love of learning. Our efforts have led to improved student attendance rates, additional teaching strategies in the classroom, and measurable growth.
As your principal, I have spent this year focused on ensuring that our school runs smoothly, building strong relationships, and being a visible presence in our hallways. Next year, I look forward to spending even more time in classrooms, celebrating the great work of our teachers and connecting with your children as they learn and grow.
Bull Run Elementary is a special place because of our dedicated staff, our supportive families, and—most importantly—our amazing students. I am honored to serve as your principal, and I am excited to continue this journey with all of you. Together, we will keep making Bull Run a place where every child can thrive and learn to value a Charger S.T.R.O.N.G. mentality!
Below you will find some end of year data. I am so proud of the students and staff. We made improvements in both reading and math, and met several of our SIIP (Strategic Improvement and Innovation Plan) Goals. Is the work finished? Not at all. But I have no doubt we are going to continue in the direction we are heading!
These milestones don't happen by accident. They are the result of the daily dedication of our amazing teachers, the resilience and focus of our wonderful students, and the constant support you provide at home.
Thank you for partnering with us to make this school year such a resounding success. Let’s keep this momentum going!
Have a wonderful summer!
-Mr. Marotta
After the students of Bull Run achieved their goal of maintaining a 95% or higher positive attendance rate during the last month of school, they earned the incentive and got to tape Mr. Marotta to the wall!

Spring VALLSS (K-3 Literacy)
Our youngest learners made fantastic strides in their foundational reading skills this year:
-
The number of K-3 students in the Low Risk Band grew from 103 in the fall to 127 by spring.
-
We saw a steady decline in the number of students in the moderate and high-risk categories, proving that our targeted reading interventions are making a real difference.
Our Grades 3-6 iReady window comparisons show a beautiful shift toward grade-level mastery from Fall to Spring:
-
We started the year with 206 students scoring early on grade level or higher. By Spring, that number climbed to 275 students!
-
Concurrently, the number of students needing intensive support (two or more grade levels below) dropped significantly from 107 down to just 65 students.
Our MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) results show that our students aren't just achieving—they are improving at a rapid pace.
-
Top-Tier Growth: Our school-wide Growth Median reached the 75th percentile! That means our students are growing faster than three-quarters of their peers nationally.
-
Climbing Achievement: Our overall achievement median jumped from the 68th percentile in the fall all the way to the 82nd percentile this spring.
-
In fact, by the end of the year, 51% of our students scored in the highest achievement tier (the blue band)!
We are also incredibly proud of our multilingual learners! Our WIDA progress percentage for Bull Run Elementary hit 55.4% in 2026. This is a fantastic rebound from last year (47.0%) and represents one of our highest achievement marks over the last decade.
Our overall school Framework Score jumped from an 84.2 to a 90.5! Here is a quick look at how our scores climbed in the three main areas that make up our total score:
Mastery: Up from 85.64% to 90.49% of possible points!
Growth: A huge leap from 78.62% to 89.81% of possible points!
Readiness: Up from 88.80% to 92.58% of possible points!
