Practice Schedule for the Week

Coaches have the right to adjust the schedule as they see fit, so make sure you are getting whatever communication comes from your program. Many of our programs have varying time schedules for practice as all our programs work together to maximize practice space and utilize our facilities equally.

Booster Club Update

Our Booster Club Board is small but mighty! We can use all the help, so if you are interested in supporting our student athletes and the Boosters efforts, let us know and we can get you connected. There are plenty of opportunities to help and even if you think your skillset is not useful, we can find a way to make it useful!

The Booster Club handles all things concessions which is the single largest source of income for our athletics budget. FCPS does not supply a yearly budget, so outside of buses and officials, we have to fundraise for everything else. The Boosters and their efforts, allow us the ability to purchase all the things that our student athletes need and want. Some of their recent purchases include the windscreens around our facilities, the baseball turtle and supporting our youth clinics.

Our Booster Club joined with several other people to donate money to cover almost 150 Hayfield students' entry into the Girls Region Basketball semifinal to support our ladies!

We have some big events coming up in the next month including three large wrestling events if you are looking for something to donate your time to. We will need plenty of help running our concession stand for these events, so please feel free to reach out.

Athletes of the Week

We want to recognize each and every athlete that participated and competed in a Winter sport. The numbers don’t lie and this is why we are so proud of our STUDENT athletes.

Winter

We were fortunate to have an incredible number of our student athletes represent Hayfield and Hawk Pride on their respective Fall All National District, Occoquan and Virginia State teams. See them all here - Hawks on the All National District Teams, Hawks on the All Occoquan Region Teams and Hawks on All State Who has next?

Kudos to all of our amazing student athletes that competed this Fall and to all our amazing student athletes that are competing for Winter teams! We look forward to seeing you all compete on the mats, in the pools, on the track and on the courts!

Our Winter teams have been competing with the best of them.

Gymnastics finished 2nd in the National District and concluded their season with a strong performance at the Regional meet.

Swim and dive finished 5th on the boys and girls side at the District meet. The one day event was highlighted by Ben Jacobs breaking the school record in both the 500 free and the 200 free. In total, we have 15 individuals and 6 relay teams that advanced to the Occoquan Region Swim meet.

Indoor track and field finished 2nd on the boys side after some exceptional individual performances in the district. The girls finished 2nd as well led by several outstanding individual performances in the district. While the girls finished 8th in the region, the boys finished 5th! Special shoutout to our pole vaulting crew making Telegraph Road the hub for all things pole vault, as both Malakai Gagnon and Sierra Guargno were Region Champs in their respective pole vault. Malakai won by over a foot and Sierra broke her own school record again!  We had three top 10 performances at the state meet as Josiah Stephens finished 9th in the triple jump, Malakai was 4th in the pole vault and Sierra finished in 3rd place in the pole vault. The scary part for the rest of the state is that none of them are seniors and they will be looking to improve on those places in the Spring and beyond!

Boys and girls basketball finished on top of the standings in the regular season. The girls team went on to win the first district championship in 30 years and will enter the Region tourney at the quarterfinal stage. Our girls team advanced to the semifinals of the region tournament and gave everything to try and advance, falling just short to a strong opponent.

Wrestling finished 3rd in the District behind an individual title by Brendan Maglathlin and runner up finishes for both Vincent Kamarck and Danniel Marshall! We hosted the Occoquan Region Tournament during the school day, where our team finished an impressive 8th place. Three of our wrestlers recently competed with the best the state of Virginia had to offer!

Spring sports tryouts are done and dusted. Several programs have scrimmages this week and we look forward to seeing great success with our soccer, lacrosse, baseball, softball, tennis and track programs all Spring long. As Ms. Seftas likes to say, the freezing season is here!

All Honors Choir

Congratulations to the following students on their successful audition into the All VA Honor Choir this year. These students placed in the top 6 scores of their voice parts in our district and will be representing our school and District at the All-Virginia Music event in Richmond in April.

Kayleigh Haes, Alto 1

Coach Drickey’s Thoughts and Ramblings

I urge you to take advantage of our Booster Club passes and gain entrance to all home regular season contests for the price of your membership. With that in mind, the expectation is that fans are coming to support and cheer for our team and our students, while making sure that we don’t make negative comments to officials or our opponents.

I know it is hard to imagine a time without all the snow on the ground after this long stretch, but make sure you hold off on purchasing your Spring mulch, as the Spring sports at Hayfield are selling mulch as a fundraiser. Order now using the following link - https://bit.ly/4qA0bS5

We are excited for our student athletes to demonstrate their success on the field and excel in the classroom, as we chase district, region, and state championships. Our goal is to make Hayfield THE school in Northern Virginia, Virginia proper and the entire country.

This week’s quote comes from Ancient Greece (shout out to all the History buffs and teachers)  and Aristotle, “we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.” As we walk around our practices on campus, these are the things we see our coaches instilling and our student athletes absorbing daily! We know this will translate when the games start and our student athletes are allowed to shine!

We look forward to our athletes, coaches and supporters winning on the field, courts, mats, track and in the pools, and in the classroom with class and HAWK PRIDE!
