Dear Holmes Families,
Over the past few weeks, Holmes Middle School has been participating in a Shadow a Student experience as part of our Lighthouse Schools work focused on strengthening student agency and ownership of learning. During this initiative, select staff members spend one full school day following a student through their regular schedule to better understand the student experience and identify opportunities to strengthen engagement and voice.
Through this work, we hope to gain:
- A deeper understanding of how students experience their school day
- Insight into when and how students feel ownership over their learning
- Ideas for small, meaningful changes that strengthen student voice and engagement
We are grateful to the students and staff participating in this learning experience. The insights gained will help guide future improvements that benefit all Holmes students. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Meador (srmeador@fcps.edu).
Sincerely,
Serena Giron
Principal
The 8th Grade Civics & Economics field trip to Finance Park is still in need of adult volunteers for March 23rd, 24th, and 25th. This is a great volunteer opportunity to help with an interesting personal finance simulation. Volunteers arrive separately from students, receive a short training, and then guide students through a small part of the simulation. You can sign up HERE. These three links also provide more information: Fin Park Overview Volunteer Explanation The JA Mission.
Thank you for considering!
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Byron Hoover, Civics & Economics Lead Teacher, bbhoover@fcps.edu
