In alignment with Goal 4 of our Strategic Plan, this spring, parents/guardians will be able to review and acknowledge their child’s course requests for SY 2026-27 by using a new feature in SIS Parent VUE. Student course selection will end on Friday, March 13, 2026. The window for parents/guardians to review and acknowledge their child’s course requests via this new feature will open on Monday, March 16, 2026, and will close on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Schools are asked to share this information with their families using the draft communications that will be provided in the March 12, 2026, Principal’s Toolkit. Each school is asked to send messaging via e-notify, talking points to rising and current middle and high school families that have just completed the Academic Advising/Course Selection process.
Additionally, a resource guide and counselor instructions will be available for school counseling professionals on the School Counseling ATLAS site.
Seniors be sure to complete your application for needs-based scholarships from the JHSSF by the April 8, 2025 deadline. Last year, JHSSF awarded $310,000 in scholarships to 107 JHS seniors. You may use these scholarships to attend a trade school, community college, or a four-year college or university either in Virginia or out-of-state.
Applicants will have until April 15 to complete the short supplemental applications for the Casey Schulman Foundation, Thurgood Marshall Fund, and Baileys Crossroads Rotary Scholarships. Our community partners awarded an additional $120,000 in scholarships in 2025.
One application opens the door to multiple scholarship opportunities. Access the common online application at https://www.jhsscholars.org/

In Fairfax County Public Schools, any student driving parking their car in a student parking spot is required to have a parking permit. All parking permits were issued over the summer for the 52 student spots.
Unfortunately, some students are coming into the parking lot and taking staff spots. Vehicles seen without a parking permit will be ticketed per FCPS guidelines. The first ticket is a $25.00 fine, second is $50.00, third is $75.00 and fourth is $100.00. All fines are entered in MySchoolBucks for payment.
We have had to be more vigilant with ticketing as there have been days when staff did not have enough parking spaces. Students are able to park on the road in spaces without a number.
