Roadrunner Rundown

March 9, 2026

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you enjoyed the warmer temperatures over the weekend and were able to soak in some of the sunshine.

Thank you for your help in making sure students and staff are safe at arrival and dismissal. Please note that parents may not use the back or front parking lots to drop off or pick up students, this causes congestion and safety issues in the parking lots and along Marshall Road where students are walking to and from school.

Have a great week.

Matthew Chapman, Toni Nauflett, and Kelly Willis

School Events and Information

Welcome Spring

The change of seasons extends our days and often adds more after school activities to the schedules of many families. Please make sure your child continues to get adequate sleep to avoid tardiness and to be fully engaged at school.

Social and Emotional Learning Screening (SEL)

We will administer the Spring SEL Screener for this week. Please email Meg Gillespie today at mmgillespie@fcps.edu if you would like to opt-out your child.

Student reading in library

Library Volunteers Needed

The Library is looking for volunteers to help with shelving books-we are currently missing a critical team member and will be for some time! Library experience is not required! Those interested will need a level 2 volunteer status in order to help. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Librarian, Lisa Hoffman for more details at lahoffman@fcps.edu.

Rising Kindergarten 2026-2027

If you have a preschool-age child who is eligible for kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year, please complete the Survey of Preschool Children form and email it to mmarcumkoshu@fcps.edu (Shelly Koshuta, school registrar). A paper copy will be sent home in the Tuesday Folders. This survey is due by March 31. If you know of any children in your neighborhood who this may apply to, please share this information, and ask them to contact the school office at 703-937-1500. If you have already contacted the registrar about enrolling your rising kindergarten student, you do not need to complete this form.

Mark your calendar: the rising kindergarten orientation will be held for parents and student(s) on April 22 at 2:00 pm.

Virginia law, Section 22.1-254 requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2021, must be enrolled in kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

Thank you for your assistance in helping us identify school-age children.

Staff Spotlight

Staff Spotlight

Hooray for Ms. K! Ms. K is one of our incredible IAs for EAC and has been at Marshall Road since 2022. What does Ms. K love about Marshall Road? She said she loves when “ kids will stop by for a quick chat, free hugs or just to say hello. I love greeting the kids in the morning with a big smile and the warmth of a Big Good Morning (to make sure they’re awake). MRES has the most amazing community I have ever seen in a school, and I love that!”

In her spare time, Ms. K loves running (2 marathons and counting!) and traveling with her family. She is happily married to Mr. Andrew and proud mom of 2 kids, Emma and Noah.

Fun facts: Ms. K loves to dress up and be colorful! She said it “keeps your mood joyful.” She loves fashion and shopping and every Wednesday she wears PINK! “And believe it or not I don’t like chocolate!”

Student Fasting Meal Kits

A Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) waiver allows students fasting during the school day to request take-home meal kits. These kits include a complete school breakfast and lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Important Meal Kit Information:

  • Kits are charged based on a student’s meal status (Free, Reduced, or Paid).
  • Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day.
  • Students who eat a meal at school during the day are not eligible for a take-home kit on the same day.
  • Kits are distributed at the end of the school day. Students must pick up their own kits; adults are not permitted to collect them.

Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website by March 9 for the week of March 16. Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.
