The City of Montreal has suspended American Iron & Metal’s permit to operate after a major fire at the company’s Montréal-Est scrapyard burned for more than seven hours on Thursday, The Gazette's Jack Wilson reports.
The city claims the company — which came under similar scrutiny in New Brunswick following a fire there in 2023 — has consistently emitted higher-than-permitted levels of iron particles, arsenic and other toxic industrial chemicals into the air.
