Hey Bob, Most people building a language habit are building the wrong one entirely. That's why so many stay stuck at beginner, no matter how many years they've been at it. Hours in. Nothing much to show for it. After learning eight languages myself, I've come to think fluency really comes down to just 4 things you need to be doing each day. Not five. Not ten. Four. And the first one costs you zero extra minutes. Because here's the thing — you're never going to "find time" to study a language. That time doesn't exist. What you can do is take a moment that already exists in your day — the drive to work, the gym, your morning coffee — and swap whatever you're listening to for something in the language. A podcast. A short story. A radio station. Something you actually enjoy. That's it. No willpower needed, because it's piggybacking on a habit you've already got. I did this when I was learning Cantonese — swapped my evening TV for a Cantonese series. 96 episodes later, the way I sounded had completely changed. That's habit one. The other three are in the video, along with the loop they form when you put them all together. Watch it here Chat soon, Olly |
