Re: “It’s No Wonder Grads Are Booing Their Commencement Speakers

I have been a college professor for nearly 40 years. Tomorrow will be my last Commencement. It is time to go. I know it is popular (see the comments here) to accuse students of being lazy ignorant naifs who use A.I. because it sure beats thinking. There are folks like that out there. But I continue to have a deep and abiding faith in the young people who each year go forth to do their best to fix this broken world. The painters, the poets, the musicians, the novelists and, yes, the scientists who bring joy and meaning that goes beyond data. I am retiring fully convinced that it has been better to help light some candles than to simply curse the darkness. Graduates? Bless you all.— A comment posted by John from Bar Harbor, Maine
