| Good morning. I'm leading off our Opinion newsletter this morning with you, our readers. Many of you responded to our call about how to fix the CTA. So many, in fact, we have an extra long package of letters today on that beleaguered but vital agency, including some love letters, too. Friday at the editorial board, we blew up our prior weekend plans when the Chicago Bears announced they were now
"pursuing" only Hammond as the site of their new stadium. Some Illinois pols insisted the deal still was not yet done but the whole business is, we feel, becoming ridiculous. We made our feelings known as you can read below. Will this be our least editorial on the topic for a while? I sure hope so, but we can only react to the news. Sunday, we noted the procession of Chicagoland pols visiting the Holy Father in Rome and mused as to whether he would prefer a break from talking White Sox to all and sundry. Republicans are finally showing some guts when it comes to resisting some of Donald Trump
's more egregiously corrupt actions. Sunday the editorial board wrote that we'd like to see a whole lot more of the same. Also Monday: we took a look at the University of Chicago's historic Yerkes Observatory along the shores of southeast Wisconsin’s Geneva Lake. We're glad to see it thriving. We have other interesting reads including a piece by Cam Lippert-Roof on the challenges of looking for your dream condo in Chicago. "Not everyone is shopping the same housing market," Cam writes. Jude Dumfeh gets us all in the World Cup mood, too. There are 104 matches ahead, alas none of which are in Chicago. Finally, our architecture columnist Edward Keegan wrote about the Obama Presidential Center this weekend. I think Ed finds things about Chicago's newest major attraction that the other out-of-town writers missed. I hope you'll give what he had to say a read. The editorial board is headed there today for an off-site meeting. More on that to come. — Chris Jones, editorial page editor Submit an op-ed | Submit a letter to the editor | Meet the Tribune Editorial Board | Subscribe to this newsletter |
