Everything You Missed at the Tony Awards |
“For some reason, I’m your host, Pink.” With those words, the singer and unlikely Tony Awards host launched Broadway’s biggest night on Sunday. But the hitmaker also established her stage cred with a demanding opening number: a “Lady Marmalade” parody, for which she was joined by Megan Thee Stallion, Neil Patrick Harris, and Dylan Mulvaney, among others. As Eve Batey writes in her recap of the ceremony, the initial levity of Pink’s opening was countered by victories for politically loaded productions—like best-play winner Liberation and Ragtime, which took home best revival, best leading actress (Caissie Levy), and best leading actor (Joshua Henry) in the musical categories. “Fight, fight, fight to be heard,” Henry implored in his acceptance speech, a demand met with thunderous applause.
