There was lots of energy last week at the 2nd grade fairy tale end of year party. We have loved seeing so many parents come celebrate the end of year milestone with their child's classmates and community members.

Principal's Message

Dear Franklin Sherman ES Parents/Guardians,

Today was one of those special days that reminds us why our school community is so extraordinary.

This afternoon, we welcomed back a remarkable group of visitors: the graduating seniors from McLean High School who began their educational journey right here at Franklin Sherman. As they walked our halls once again, many wearing their caps and gowns, they were greeted with cheers, smiles, high-fives, and admiration from our students and staff.

For our younger students, it was an opportunity to see what is possible through hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to learning. For our staff, it was a joyful reminder of the lasting impact of elementary school experiences and relationships. And for our returning seniors, it was a chance to reconnect with the place where so many memories were made and where their educational story first began.

We could not be prouder of these graduates. Their accomplishments reflect years of dedication, growth, and resilience. As they prepare to take their next steps—whether to college, careers, military service, or other exciting opportunities—they carry with them the values, friendships, and foundations built throughout their years in Fairfax County Public Schools.

Moments like today remind us that education is not just about academic achievement. It is about building a community that supports, encourages, and celebrates one another through every stage of life. Watching our youngest students cheer for our oldest was a powerful example of what it means to belong to the Franklin Sherman family.

As we approach the end of another successful school year, there is so much to celebrate:

  • The growth and accomplishments of our students.
  • The dedication of our teachers and staff.
  • The partnership and support of our families.
  • The countless moments of kindness, curiosity, creativity, and perseverance that have filled our classrooms and hallways.

To our McLean High School graduates: thank you for returning home to Franklin Sherman and inspiring our students. We are incredibly proud of you and excited to see all that you will accomplish in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Farris Thomas
Principal

Franklin Sherman Family Impact Campaign

Dear Franklin Sherman Families,

We all want the very best for our kids and our school.

As you heard at the Principal’s Coffees this week, our administration is working hard to preserve critical staffing and student support resources that are not fully funded this year or next. As a community, we have an opportunity to help.

Click here for FSES Family Impact Campaign

The PTA spring fundraiser is focused on just that. The impact campaign helps you see exactly what you’re helping provide. Covering supplies helps free up school funds for staffing and educational materials, and purchasing everyday supplies like paper and notebooks support hands-on learning (and time away from devices!).

If each family contributes $35 per child, we can fully meet our needs.

Thank you for being part of a community that shows up for our students and our school.

A huge thank you to the incredible first 5 families who contributed - the Parsons family, the Gutierrez family, the Baeder family, the Dreyfuss family and the Steger family!

Reminders

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.

Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.

FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage.

Students Not Returning

Please fill out this student intentions form for each child who WILL NOT attend Franklin Sherman. The parents/care givers of current 6th grade students should fill out the form if their child will not attend Cooper/Longfellow nest year.
