Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, a Democratic candidate for Alaska governor, has brought in $1.8 million since entering the race in February. The majority came from wealthy donors who live in the Lower 48.
Three Alaska tribes have sued the Trump administration over a permit that would allow construction of a gravel road through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge on the Alaska Peninsula.
A repeat of last year's historic sockeye salmon run on the Kenai River, with more than 4.2 million fish returning, would have been unlikely. Still, this year’s late-season sockeye run has been surprisingly slow.

When a conservation biologist recently saw a social media video of a round creature with disproportionately long legs scampering across the ground, he had questions. Mostly: “What is that?” The biologist joined millions of people across the internet who were confused, fascinated and ultimately cheering for "Jimothy," the odd-looking raccoon who lives in Seattle.

It's mostly sunny today with a high around 63 degrees, but there are some strong winds in the Anchorage area. The forecast calls for gusts up to 30 mph today. We can expect mostly sunny skies on Friday and heading into the weekend.

Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, a Democratic former state lawmaker from Sitka, has raised more campaign funds than any of the other 17 candidates in Alaska’s governor race. The next three candidates who brought in the most fundraising are Republican Matt Heilala, Democrat Tom Begich and Republican Treg Taylor. Heilala's haul of nearly $1.6 million is mostly self-funded.
